The experienced tactician, who previously coached Ghana’s Black Satellites, initially took charge on an interim basis during the latter stages of last season, following the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum due to a string of poor results.

His leadership culminated in Kotoko’s triumph in the MTN FA Cup, where they claimed their 10th title with a 2-1 win over Golden Kick FC, thanks to a brace from Kwame Opoku at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Impressed by his impact, the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), chaired by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, confirmed Zito’s appointment during the official unveiling of the Fabu census in Kumasi on Sunday.

“We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey as our head coach for the next two years,” a club statement said.

Zito will now steer Kotoko’s preparations for the upcoming season, starting with the Toyota Cup clash against South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs on July 28, 2025, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

He will also lead the team in the 2025 GHALCA Top Four tournament, scheduled from August 20 to 24 at the Baba Yara Stadium, as Kotoko gear up for the CAF Confederation Cup and the new domestic campaign.
