An employee of the Ghana Railways Company has told the media that the Pokuase Area Manager for the Ghana Railways Company Limited has died while two other persons who sustained injuries during a test drive on the Accra-Nsawam railway track on Monday, October 25, 202, are receiving treatment at a medical facility.

Confirming the unfortunate accident, an employee of the railway company, Mr. Owusu Omane, said the Manager passed on while he was trying to escape danger during the test drive.

The employee continued that the train came into contact with an electric cable which electrocuted it, compelling some 15 workers onboard to make an emergency exit.

The manager whose only name was mentioned as Asanted, according to the narration, in a bid to exist the moving train landed on the wrong side of the rail tarck and subsequently died in the process.

“After constructing the railway track, we decided to test it. While en route the driver had noticed a sagged cable that had crossed the line but then it was too late to stop the train. When the train came into contact with the electric cable, it began to spark light,” the employee remarked.

He continued “Everybody onboard started jumping out of it to save their lives but the manager was in front. Out of fear he also jumped but unfortunately landed on the track.

“The train, because it could not stop immediately, ran over him, leading to his death,” he sadly stated.

According to him the two other persons who have sustained various degrees of injuries in the event include the Traffic Manger known as Mr. Malik and Railway engineer Mr. Abeiku.

The two are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

A police team from the area reportedly visited the scene where they retrieved the body of the manager to an unnamed medical facility’s morgue for preservation.
