“Real Power Lies In Parliament”- Nana Konadu

Former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings has asserted that the true stakeholder of Ghana’s democracy is the legislative arm of government.

The former first lady who was unanimously acclaimed by the National Democratic Party (NDP) as its Presidential candidate for the December polls, established that Ghana’s democratic infrastructure   has over the past few decades centralized the economic advancement of the nation around the presidency and this she says, has fought against the overall development of the nation.

In her acceptance address, at the  event held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) hall in Accra, Mrs Rawlings insisted that her party’s keen participation in grassroots politics is crucial to Ghana’s political advancement, hence, her party’s determination to be relevant particularly in the parliamentary elections.

“The true power lies in parliament. That is where the key decisions that shape up our nation are made. We need to focus our lenses more in that regard” , she said.

She added, “In parliament every citizen’s representative is there, you can have your say through your representatives”.

In conclusion, she urged Ghanaians to continue their efforts in deepening our democratic values and enhance a conducive environment for socio-economic advancement.
