Lydia Ampiah calls for accountability and evidence-based politics in Ghana

Lydia Ampiah calls for discipline in Ghana’s political space
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Political activist Lydia has called for greater accountability and consistency in Ghanaian politics, urging political parties to substantiate their allegations with credible evidence, regardless of whether they are in government or opposition.

Speaking on Plan B 104.5 FM’s Eb aanosen programme, Lydia argued that political leaders should not be praised simply for strongly criticising a government while in opposition. She maintained that their claims must be backed by facts and that all political parties should be held to the same standards of accountability.

She noted that Ghana’s political discourse increasingly involves accusations between political opponents, with some allegations not adequately supported by evidence.

While acknowledging the opposition’s responsibility to scrutinise government decisions and demand explanations for public expenditure, Lydia stressed that such oversight must be fair, factual and consistent.

Calls for Fact-Based Economic Debate

Lydia further emphasised the need for accountability amid Ghana’s economic challenges, pointing to concerns about the country’s financial position, its engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the impact of economic difficulties on citizens.

She argued that national economic issues should be examined through facts and evidence rather than used primarily as opportunities for partisan attacks.

Lydia maintained that political parties must be willing to answer questions about their actions and decisions, irrespective of their position in government, to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s democratic governance.
