The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has banned tally voting for eight positions in its constituency-level elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, as part of measures to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
The party has also made it compulsory for delegates to present valid identification documents before they can cast their ballots.
The NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, announced the directives at a press briefing on Thursday, October 22, urging aspirants, delegates and election officials to comply strictly with the approved guidelines.
Under the new arrangements, delegates must present a valid voter identification card, Ghana Card or the party’s plastic membership ID card for verification before being allowed to vote.
Mr Kwetey stressed that election officials must apply the identification requirement uniformly, warning against attempts to bypass the verification process or give preferential treatment to particular delegates.
He further directed that ballots for the party’s women’s and youth conferences be kept securely and counted only after voting in the main constituency executive elections has ended.
The guidelines also prohibit tally voting for eight designated positions, requiring each delegate to cast a single vote for each of the affected positions.
Mr Kwetey emphasised that the directives were mandatory for all participants and cautioned aspirants and delegates against engaging in practices that could undermine the credibility of the elections.
“We expect all participants to comply fully with them. Ignorance of the rules will not justify attempts to circumvent them and no aspirants or delegates should seek an advantage through practices that compromise the fairness of the process,” he said.
The directives form part of the NDC’s efforts to strengthen electoral transparency, enforce uniform voting procedures and protect the integrity of its constituency-level elections.
