Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the constituency ahead of the next general election.
In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former lawmaker said her decision followed considerable reflection, consultations and engagements with party leadership and executives.
Adwoa Safo explained that although she had earlier indicated her intention to explore opportunities beyond the constituency, further reflection had convinced her that serving the people of Dome-Kwabenya remained her greatest responsibility.
She said she would formally present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries.
“My decision to return to contest is informed by my enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and my conviction that there remains much to contribute to the development of our constituency and the advancement of our shared aspirations,” she stated.
The former minister described her relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya as one built on years of shared experiences, dedicated service and sacrifice, adding that her commitment to the constituency transcended partisan politics.
Reflecting on her years in Parliament, Adwoa Safo said she had worked with residents, party faithful, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to address developmental challenges and deliver tangible progress.
She acknowledged that more work remained to be done but pledged to build on the progress made during her years of service and work towards a better future for the constituency.
Adwoa Safo also recalled her emergence as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in 2012, when, according to her statement, the votes inherited by the party in the region stood at about 35,000. She credited collective efforts, hard work and unity of purpose for the party’s subsequent progress.
Her declaration sets the stage for a potential contest within the NPP in Dome-Kwabenya, subject to the party’s official timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries.
