FDA destroys 40ft container of unhygienic Bale Diapers at Shai Hills

FDA destroys 40ft container of unhygienic Bale Diapers at Shai Hills

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has supervised the destruction of a 40-foot container of non-compliant bale diapers imported from Spain to prevent the products from entering the Ghanaian market.

The disposal exercise was carried out at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site at Shai Hills in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Customs Division and National Security.

According to the FDA, the diapers were imported loose, unpackaged and under unhygienic conditions, raising concerns about their compliance with the country’s product safety and regulatory requirements.

The container was intercepted during a joint inspection at the Tema Port by officers of the FDA, the GRA Customs Division and National Security.

The Authority said the cost of disposing of the products was borne by the importer, who was also required to pay the applicable statutory fines.

The FDA has consequently urged importers to obtain all necessary approvals from the Authority before bringing regulated products into the country.

It stressed that compliance with importation requirements and established product safety standards is essential to protecting public health and preventing non-compliant goods from reaching consumers.

The exercise forms part of efforts by the regulatory authorities to ensure that products entering the Ghanaian market meet the required safety and quality standards.
