The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026, to resolve the ongoing strike by university administrators.

In a press statement dated Sunday, October 11, the Ministry said the meeting is aimed at facilitating constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the industrial action.

The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.

It also urged all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, considering the impact of the strike on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

The statement further called on GAUA’s leadership to seize the opportunity for meaningful engagement and collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to bring the impasse to an end.

The Ministry expressed optimism that the meeting would produce a positive outcome and pave the way for a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions.

The strike by university administrators has disrupted activities within the tertiary education sector, raising concerns about its implications for university operations and the academic calendar.

The outcome of Monday’s meeting is expected to be crucial in determining the next steps towards resolving the dispute.

The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Ministry of Education.
