Police verify hospitalisation of Harold Norman in Nana Akua abuse case

The Ghana Police Service has provided an update on investigations into a viral domestic abuse video involving Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua.

According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), its Director-General received a petition from Rosemond Akua Adobea on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband, Harold Norman, had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.

The Police said preliminary investigations established that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.

Following the petition, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. He subsequently gave a caution statement and was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29, while investigations continued.

The Police said Norman was scheduled to appear before court on October 7, 2026, but his lawyer informed them that he had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to appear.

Investigators from DOVVSU have since visited the hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation, the Police said.

The CID added that it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for the alleged victim and her children.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly.
