The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has confirmed that Governor Dr Johnson Asiama ceased to serve on the Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) effective May 11, 2026.
The central bank said since that date, Dr Asiama has not participated in any meetings or activities of the GoldBod Board.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, the BoG explained that it has nominated its Second Deputy Governor, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, to represent the central bank on the GoldBod Board.
The Bank said the arrangement is in accordance with Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which provides for the Bank of Ghana to be represented on the GoldBod Board by the Governor or an official of the Bank not below the rank of Director.
“Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has since assumed that role and represents the Bank on the GoldBod Board in fulfilment of the statutory requirement,” the statement said.
The clarification follows public commentary surrounding Dr Asiama’s recent disclosure that he had resigned from the GoldBod Board about five months ago and no longer attended its meetings.
GoldBod has also rejected suggestions that the Governor’s departure from the Board points to a disagreement between the two institutions, explaining that he had simply nominated his deputy to represent him because of his busy schedule.
The Bank of Ghana, in its latest statement, stressed its commitment to good governance, transparency and avoiding any actual or perceived conflict of interest in the discharge of its mandate.
The clarification effectively confirms that while Dr Asiama no longer personally serves on the GoldBod Board, the Bank of Ghana continues to have representation on the governing body through Mrs Asante-Asiedu.
