Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has reiterated that he will not abandon his football philosophy, insisting that winning remains more important to him than playing an attractive style of football.
Queiroz made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 21, 2026, as the Black Stars continued preparations for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The Portuguese coach pointed to changes in the football philosophies of top European clubs, including Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, arguing that styles evolve over time.
However, he maintained that after 47 years in coaching, he has no intention of abandoning the principles that have defined his career.
“Manchester City, PSG and Barcelona are changing their style step by step. My style has kept me in the job, and it is not after 47 years that I will change my style.”
Queiroz, who has a long coaching career at club and international level, has faced questions about his approach since taking charge of the Black Stars.
The experienced coach, however, made it clear that his priority is achieving results rather than changing his philosophy to satisfy expectations about how Ghana should play.
He is now preparing the Black Stars for two crucial AFCON qualifying assignments, with Ghana set to face Côte d’Ivoire before taking on The Gambia.
Queiroz has previously stressed the importance of results and organisation as he seeks to build a competitive Black Stars side. Contemporary analysis of his Ghana appointment has also highlighted his reputation for a more cautious and structured approach to the game.
