Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus has reportedly opted out of returning to Ghana for the Black Stars’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, despite being named in Carlos Queiroz’s squad.
According to a report by 3Sports, Kudus is set to miss Ghana’s first competitive fixtures since the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old was expected to return to the national team after missing Ghana’s World Cup campaign due to injury.
Kudus recently made his return to competitive football for Tottenham after spending about seven months on the sidelines. His comeback was welcomed by Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who described the return as “great news” for the team.
The midfielder’s reported decision comes as Ghana prepare for two important qualifiers. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29.
Kudus’ absence would be a setback for Queiroz as he begins Ghana’s preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, particularly with the midfielder only recently returning from his lengthy injury layoff.
