Healing beyond hurt: Rev. Manful urges forgiveness, warns against revenge

Rev. Manful urges public to break free from the grip of regret

Reverend Manful has cautioned people against seeking revenge when they are hurt or betrayed, saying retaliation rarely brings the peace or resolution they desire.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Manful said while the pain caused by betrayal or rejection may be genuine, responding with revenge often worsens the situation and prevents victims from addressing the deeper wounds behind their actions.

He explained that people caught in cycles of retaliation may fail to identify the real source of their anger, bitterness and desire for payback, making it difficult for them to heal.

Rev. Manful further highlighted sibling rivalry and family conflicts as some of the situations that can lead to serious resentment when jealousy and unresolved grievances are allowed to grow.

He cited the biblical story of Cain and Abel as an example of how rivalry, jealousy and unresolved emotions within families can escalate into destructive consequences.

According to him, rejection can also become a major trigger for revenge, particularly when individuals struggle to process feelings of abandonment, betrayal or humiliation.

He urged people who have been wronged to resist the temptation to take matters into their own hands and instead leave vengeance to God.

Rev. Manful also cautioned against allowing bitterness and unresolved conflicts to enter religious spaces, urging Christians to avoid gossip and other actions that could tarnish the image of the church.

He stressed that forgiveness does not necessarily mean excusing wrongdoing or pretending that the hurt never happened.

Rather, he said, forgiveness allows the victim to release the burden of anger and the desire for revenge, creating room for emotional and spiritual healing.

Rev. Manful encouraged individuals dealing with deep hurts to focus on their own restoration instead of waiting to see the offender suffer, noting that letting go of revenge can help them move forward and build healthier relationships.
