Residents of Kweiman in the Greater Accra Region have apprehended a man for allegedly impersonating an official of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and collecting money from households.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect went from house to house claiming to be conducting checks on behalf of ECG. He allegedly demanded payments from residents during the exercise.
However, some alert residents became suspicious of his activities and confronted him. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for residents to remain vigilant and verify the identity and credentials of anyone claiming to be an ECG official, particularly when such individuals demand money or request access to homes.
Residents have also been advised to report suspicious activities to the nearest ECG office or police station.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities continue their inquiries.
