NPP group accuses Justin Kodua of inexperience

Justin Kodua Flaws John Boadu To Become NPP’s New General Secretary

A group calling itself the Patriotic Citizens of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, of lacking the experience required to manage the party, arguing that his leadership has contributed to internal divisions.

The group said the office of General Secretary requires an experienced and politically mature person capable of managing internal party affairs, coordinating the various structures of the party and maintaining unity.

In a statement issued on September 7, 2026, the group said Kodua’s inexperience had resulted in what it described as poor management of internal party affairs, weak coordination and an inability to hold the party together.

“We have observed with pain that the current General Secretary is inexperienced and the job is bigger than him,” the group stated.

The Patriotic Citizens of the NPP further claimed that several senior members of the party had resigned during Kodua’s tenure, while two splinter groups, the United Party and The Base, had also emerged from the NPP.

“This has never happened in the history of our great tradition. A General Secretary who presides over disintegration cannot lead us to integration for victory in 2028,” the group said.

The group has therefore rejected calls for Kodua, popularly known as JFK, to retain his position for another term, arguing that the party needs a new leader with the experience and political maturity to rebuild unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.

It said its opposition to his re-election was not motivated by personal hatred or a vendetta, but by what it described as concern for the future of the NPP.

“We are in opposition. Opposition requires a bold, fearless, charismatic and vociferous General Secretary who can match the NDC boot-for-boot, inspire the base and defend the party at all times.

“Regrettably, the current General Secretary is timid and lacks the charisma and fighting spirit needed for this crucial job. He has failed to provide the strong voice and strategic direction that opposition politics demands,” it said.

The group also argued that the NPP lost about 50 parliamentary seats in the 2024 elections during Kodua’s tenure, describing the outcome as a historic defeat that resulted in the party losing power and becoming a minority in Parliament.

The Patriotic Citizens of the NPP are therefore calling on delegates to reject Kodua’s bid for a second term and support new leadership that, in their view, can unite the party and position it for victory in 2028.

The group stressed that its position was intended as a call for change within the NPP and not an attack on the party itself.
