The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has announced alternative routes for motorists following the closure of the Obetsebi Lamptey Roundabout along the Dr Busia Highway in the Kaneshie enclave.
The closure, which takes effect Monday, September 7, 2026, is to facilitate the construction of a 10-metre-wide underground stormwater drain aimed at improving flood control and addressing persistent drainage challenges in the area.
The project involves the construction of a double-cell rectangular drain stretching about 1.5 kilometres from Pamprom Junction to First Light Junction.
According to a report by adomonline.com on September 7, 2026, motorists travelling from Circle have been advised to use the Awudome Cemetery Road, while those approaching from the Graphic Road area should use the STC Station Road.
Drivers coming from the Korle-Bu Mortuary area have also been encouraged to use the Oblogo or Zongo Junction routes to avoid the affected stretch.
The new drain, which will be approximately 10 metres wide, will replace two existing pipes, each measuring about 1.2 metres in diameter.

It will also connect the recently completed drainage section within the Accra Academy campus to the drain at Pamprom Junction.
GARID Communication Officer, Philip Donyo, said the initial closure would allow the project team to assess the impact of the works on traffic and identify potential challenges before full-scale construction begins.
“We will closely monitor the traffic situation and make the necessary adjustments to minimise inconvenience to motorists and commuters,” he said.
Donyo urged road users to cooperate with the project team and use the designated alternative routes throughout the construction period.
He stressed that the cooperation of motorists and the general public would be essential to managing congestion and ensuring the smooth implementation of the project.
