The Obuasi Municipal Security Council has ordered the demolition of the popular Townhall trading hub following a fire that destroyed about 30 shops.
Municipal Chief Executive Faustilove Appiah Kannin, who also heads the Security Council, announced the decision after firefighters brought the blaze under control on Sunday.
She said the decision would be communicated to stakeholders ahead of the planned demolition exercise.
The fire broke out on Saturday night and spread through parts of the busy trading centre, destroying goods and other items belonging to traders.
About 30 shops have so far been burnt, according to the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Perpetual Koomson.
She said NADMO would do its best to support the affected traders as they assess the extent of their losses.
Some traders have appealed for urgent assistance, saying the fire had destroyed their goods and livelihoods.
The cause of the fire has yet to be established, with the Ghana National Fire Service and other state security agencies expected to investigate the incident.
Traders were left counting their losses as authorities assessed the extent of the damage.
