A faulty MAN diesel truck with registration number GW 3136-14 has reportedly caused multiple accidents involving about three vehicles on the Amasaman–Nsawam road.
The truck, which was transporting sugar from Accra to Kumasi, reportedly developed a brake failure while travelling along the highway.
Speaking to Adom News, the driver’s mate, Abdul Malik, said the driver was unable to stop the vehicle after the brakes failed. According to him, the driver attempted to park the truck but could not do so, resulting in collisions involving a Rhino vehicle and other private cars.
Meanwhile, an observation by Adom News reporter Prince Owusu Asiedu on the Pokuase–Amasaman road revealed several faulty vehicles parked along the road, posing a serious danger to motorists.
Some of the vehicles were left on the roadside without adequate warning signs, creating potential hazards, particularly for drivers travelling at high speed or during periods of poor visibility.
Residents who spoke to Adom News expressed concern over the situation and called on the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to intensify checks on faulty and unroadworthy vehicles operating on the highways.
They urged authorities to ensure that vehicles with mechanical faults are safely removed from major roads and that commercial vehicle operators carry out regular maintenance to prevent avoidable accidents.
The residents stressed that stricter enforcement of road safety regulations is needed to protect motorists, passengers and other road users from potentially fatal incidents.
