GoldBod rejects GH¢1bn overdraft claim, demands retraction from Tano South MP

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected as false and malicious a claim that it owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) an unpaid overdraft of GH¢1 billion.

The claim is attributed to the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Dr. Gideon Boako.

In a statement, GoldBod said the allegation forms part of what it described as a “deliberate and malicious smear campaign” against the institution.

GoldBod stated that, since its establishment, it has never taken a loan, overdraft or any other debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution.

“The GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever,” the statement said.

The institution described the claim attributed to Dr. Boako as “contrived” and called on the Tano South MP to retract the allegation and apologise for what it considers a false claim.

GoldBod urged the public to disregard the allegation, insisting that it has no outstanding GH¢1 billion overdraft with the Bank of Ghana.
