Michael Teye calls for proper procedures in handling corruption allegations

Lack Of Integrity Is Cause Of Corruption In Ghana – Political Analyst
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Social commentator Michael B. Teye has called for strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the handling of corruption allegations, stressing the need for transparency, due process and proper institutional processes whenever accusations of wrongdoing arise.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Adomba De-Starboy, Mr. Teye questioned whether institutions such as the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) need to review their procedures to ensure that appropriate steps are followed when corruption-related allegations are made.

He said every institution has established procedures that must be respected when dealing with allegations, particularly those involving public officials and state institutions.

Mr. Teye also questioned the purpose and progress of internal committees of inquiry established to investigate allegations of wrongdoing.

According to him, authorities must provide clear updates on the work of such committees instead of leaving the public without information on what has been uncovered and what action is being taken.

He said where there is credible evidence of wrongdoing, the appropriate law-enforcement agencies must take the necessary action and, where warranted, prosecute those found culpable.

Mr. Teye stressed that investigations should not end with allegations and committee hearings without concrete action based on credible evidence.

He further noted that political affiliation can sometimes influence how people perceive investigations and public institutions, particularly when political parties are in opposition.

He said this has contributed to public distrust in institutions such as the Attorney-General’s Office, making it crucial for authorities to demonstrate fairness, independence and transparency in handling corruption-related cases.

Mr. Teye therefore urged institutions responsible for investigating corruption allegations to strictly follow due process and communicate effectively with the public, saying such measures are essential to restoring confidence in Ghana’s accountability and justice systems.
