Accra Mall accident: All children alive but some critically injured

Availability Of More Rest Stops Will Be The Solution to Fatigue Driving Which Is The Major Cause Of Road Traffic Crashes – NRSA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There is a glimmer of hope following the horrific crash on the Accra Mall–Dzorwulu highway, as all 11 children involved in the accident have been confirmed alive.

Preliminary findings indicate that the children, aged between 3 and 10 years, were not returning from an excursion as initially speculated. Rather, they were travelling from Ashaiman towards Accra in a Benz Sprinter bus when the accident occurred.

According to initial reports from the scene, the crash happened after the driver of a loaded tipper truck allegedly attempted a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre, causing the vehicle to slam into the stationary Sprinter bus carrying the children.

Although all the children survived the impact, several sustained life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital, where medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise them.

The crash scene, which was littered with blood and badly damaged vehicles, initially sparked fears of multiple fatalities before emergency responders confirmed that every child had been rescued alive.
