The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old robbery suspect following a swift response by a night patrol team at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to a police press release, the incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2026, when the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
Police officers rushed to the scene, where the suspect attempted to flee upon seeing them and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested.
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, 19, was searched, leading to the retrieval of the victim’s stolen mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used in the attack. Both items have been retained by the police as exhibits.
The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was immediately transported to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Police said officers revisited the victim at about 5:30 a.m. the same day and found that he had regained consciousness. He was reported to be in a stable condition and remains under medical observation.
Ahmed Mustapha is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
