Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has expressed solidarity with the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his recent legal troubles.
In a statement dated July 22, 2026, Mr. Boadu said he had followed developments involving Chairman Wontumi with “deep concern and sympathy,” describing the situation as a difficult moment for the party and its members.
He said the NPP remains a family that must stand together during challenging periods, adding that he shares the party’s position that Chairman Wontumi is a political prisoner.
Mr. Boadu, who served as the NPP’s General Secretary from 2018 to 2022 and previously held the position of National Organiser, urged party members and supporters to remain calm, united, disciplined and law-abiding as the party leadership pursues legal avenues towards securing Wontumi’s release.
He cautioned supporters against acts of provocation, stressing the need for the party to continue upholding democratic values and its long-standing traditions.
According to the former NPP administrator, the strength of the party lies in unity, resilience and confidence in the justice system. He also prayed for strength and protection for Chairman Wontumi, his family and supporters, while calling for truth and justice to prevail.
John Boadu remains one of the prominent figures within the NPP, having played a key role in the party’s organisational structures over the years and contributing to its electoral campaigns before and during his tenure as General Secretary.
