2026 FIFA World Cup
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has praised the performance of African teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing their showing as a positive indication of the continent’s growing strength in global football.
Speaking at a global press conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, Motsepe said African representatives “did very well” at the tournament and expressed confidence that the continent’s teams will continue to make greater strides on the world stage.
The CAF President highlighted the progress made by African nations, noting that their competitiveness against some of the world’s strongest football countries reflects the improvement in quality, investment and development across the continent.
“We are proud of the performance of our African teams. They did very well,” Motsepe said.
He added that the achievements at the World Cup should serve as motivation for further investment in football infrastructure, youth development and stronger domestic competitions.
Motsepe’s comments come as CAF continues its push to strengthen African football and increase the continent’s influence in international competitions.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring an expanded 48-team format, provided more opportunities for African nations to compete against top footballing countries, with CAF receiving nine guaranteed qualification slots and an additional play-off opportunity.
