15 feared dead in multi-vehicle crash on Kumasi-Accra Highway

15 feared dead in multi-vehicle crash on Kumasi-Accra Highway
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

At least 15 people are feared to have lost their lives in a devastating road crash involving three vehicles at Odumase, near Konongo, on the Kumasi-Accra Highway in the Ashanti Region.

The collision involved a passenger bus, a truck loaded with tomatoes and an empty fuel tanker.

While the cause of the accident has not been officially confirmed, eyewitnesses said the crash occurred after one of the vehicles allegedly attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre, leading to a violent head-on collision.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage, while several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The incident has left traffic heavily disrupted along the busy highway as police and other emergency personnel continue rescue, recovery and traffic management operations.

In a related development, another road accident was reported shortly afterwards at Dadieso, also near Konongo, raising fresh concerns over road safety on the Kumasi-Accra route.

Authorities are yet to confirm the number of fatalities or provide an official account of the circumstances that led to either crash.
