The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has assured Parliament that the government is implementing measures to support maize and bean farmers in the Atebubu-Amantin District following the marketing challenges they faced last year.
Responding to questions on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Dumelo announced that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has begun the nationwide distribution of agricultural inputs for the 2026 major cropping season to boost production across the country.
He also revealed that the Ministry is collaborating with the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to strengthen the purchase and marketing of locally produced grains.
According to the Deputy Minister, NAFCO has been directed to intensify the procurement of surplus maize, rice and soya beans from farmers to help address marketing difficulties and provide a reliable market for their produce.
Hon. Dumelo said the interventions are expected to stabilise market prices, improve farmers’ incomes and enhance Ghana’s food security by ensuring that agricultural produce reaches the market efficiently.
