A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, Cromwell Nana Ansah, has welcomed the resignation of Electoral Commission (EC) Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, describing his tenure as marked by incompetence and poor leadership.
His comments come on the heels of a call by Election Watch Ghana on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint transformational leaders to the Electoral Commission following the departure of two senior officials of the election management body.
Dr. Bossman Asare and the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, are both expected to leave office on July 31, 2026. While Dr. Asare is returning to academia, Mr. Tettey is retiring from the Commission.
In a statement issued on June 16, 2026, Election Watch Ghana said the exits present an opportunity to rebuild public confidence in the Electoral Commission and enhance the credibility of Ghana’s electoral processes. The group argued that the tenure of the outgoing officials was characterized by declining public trust and concerns over the Commission’s performance.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem programme with Kofi Sekyi, Nana Ansah claimed that the errors associated with the declaration of the 2024 election results, which he said were revised on five separate occasions, were sufficient grounds to question Dr. Asare’s competence.
According to him, the former EC deputy chairperson poorly managed key aspects of the Commission’s work, brought the institution into disrepute, and contributed to the erosion of public trust in the electoral body.
Nana Ansah further expressed excitement over Dr. Asare’s resignation, insisting that the development presents an opportunity for the appointment of more capable leadership at the Commission
