Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has appointed former Netherlands international and renowned football manager, Stanley Menzo, as its new Director of Football with immediate effect.
The appointment forms part of the club’s ongoing rebuilding agenda aimed at strengthening its technical leadership, modernising football operations and restoring the Porcupine Warriors to the top of Ghanaian and African football.
Menzo, 62, arrives with a wealth of experience both as a player and coach. During his playing career, he spent a decade with AFC Ajax, making over 300 appearances and winning nine major trophies. He was also part of the Netherlands squad at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and helped Ajax win the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987 and the UEFA Cup in 1992.
His coaching and management career has taken him across Europe, Africa and Asia, with stints at clubs including FC Volendam, SC Cambuur, Ajax Cape Town and Beijing Guoan. He most recently managed the Suriname national football team during their World Cup qualifying campaign.
As Director of Football, Menzo will oversee the club’s football operations, including technical strategy, player recruitment and retention, youth development, and the integration of the academy and senior teams under a unified football philosophy. He will also be responsible for all technical matters at the club until a substantive head coach is appointed.
Executive Chairman of Asante Kotoko, James Osei Brown, expressed confidence in the appointment, describing Menzo as a leader with elite experience and a global football perspective capable of helping the club build a sustainable and successful future.
The appointment is expected to play a key role in shaping Kotoko’s long-term ambitions as the club seeks a return to domestic dominance and continental competitiveness.
