Tema Oil Refinery receives 1 Million barrels of Bonga crude to boost refining operations

Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced the arrival of approximately one million barrels of Bonga Crude Oil as part of efforts to revive and stabilize its refining operations.

In a statement issued on May 27, 2026, TOR said the crude oil cargo arrived aboard the MT Cap Felix and was purchased from Shell plc through the refinery’s tolling partner, Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT).

According to TOR, the shipment forms part of its ongoing refinery revitalization and crude processing programme aimed at improving Ghana’s energy security and reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products.

Management noted that the Bonga Crude, known for its low-sulphur quality and high refining yield, is expected to produce significant quantities of LPG, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine kerosene (ATK), and fuel oil for both domestic and regional markets.

TOR described the development as another milestone in its operational recovery efforts and expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulators, financial institutions and other stakeholders for their continued support.

The refinery further reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence, transparency, environmental responsibility and its long-term vision of becoming a competitive and commercially sustainable energy hub for Ghana and the West African sub-region.
