Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua with guest Mrs. Augustina Nsoah, D.C.M.O., the health expert tackled common myths, reassuring women that family planning is not harmful.
Mrs. Nsoah stated that family planning does not cause infertility. “It does not destroy your womb or eggs. It only prevents pregnancy temporarily,” she explained.
She addressed common changes in a woman’s cycle, noting that some women may experience spotting or irregular bleeding. “These are normal,” she said. “Family planning does not affect future fertility. Your ability to conceive is intact.”
A caller raised concern about a missed menstrual period. The nurse on the panel responded that women are often advised to wait about a month before seeking further review at a health facility. “Missing your period is not always a serious issue, but you should still seek medical advice,” she said.
Another contributor attributed weight gain to contraceptive use. Mrs. Nsoah disagreed, advising women to examine their diet instead. “Look at the food you eat. It must contain fiber. Weight gain is often linked more to eating habits than to family planning methods,” she explained.
The discussion ended with advice encouraging regular medical visits and open communication. “Do not suffer in silence. Family planning is safe,” Mrs. Nsoah concluded.
