The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has confirmed that a police inspector stationed at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region is under investigation over alleged defilement and incest.

According to a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit on May 9, 2026, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie is being investigated by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District following allegations that he sexually abused his 14-year-old daughter.

Police said the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua on behalf of the victim.

The statement noted that the victim was referred for medical examination to support investigations.

Authorities further disclosed that the inspector reported himself to Agona DOVVSU on February 20, 2026, where he was arrested and cautioned. He denied the allegations and was later granted enquiry bail with instructions to report periodically.

The Police Command also announced that the officer is currently being interdicted to allow for further investigations into the matter.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to a thorough investigation and promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
