The Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has initiated a formal investigation into the death of a woman at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, pledging a process that will be thorough and transparent.

In a statement released on April 29, 2026, the Directorate conveyed its condolences to the grieving family and emphasised that the matter is being handled with urgency and the highest level of seriousness.

“The death of a mother is a profoundly painful event, and we treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and concern,” the statement, signed by the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, said.

To determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, a multi-agency committee has been set up to conduct investigations.

The Directorate assured the public that once the process is concluded, the findings, along with any recommendations, will be disclosed. It noted that the goal is not only to establish the facts but also to put measures in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Residents have also been urged to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.

“We wish to assure the people of the Central Region and the general public that the Central Regional Health Directorate remains firmly committed to the safety, quality of care, and well-being of all patients, particularly mothers and children,” the statement added.

In a related development, reports indicate that a pregnant woman in labour died after she was allegedly denied a caesarean section at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital due to the unavailability of beds in the facility’s ward.
