The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for armed men who attacked a passenger bus carrying members of Berekum Chelsea along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District on Sunday night.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on 12 April 2026 at about 10:30 pm when a VIP bus transporting about 30 players and officials from Samreboi to Berekum came under attack by six armed robbers, three of whom were reportedly carrying pump-action guns.

In an attempt to escape the attack, the driver lost control and the bus veered off the road into a nearby bush. During the chaos, one of the players, identified as Dominic Frimpong, sustained gunshot injuries. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

Another passenger, George Owusu Afriyie, aged 52, was also robbed of GHS 4,500 during the incident. Police say two spent BB cartridges were recovered at the scene and are currently being analyzed as part of ongoing investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says additional personnel and crime scene investigators have been deployed to the area to support efforts to track down and arrest the suspects. Authorities have assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the police are urging residents and commuters in the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
