Car dealers at the Bantama State Experimental School say they will resist any attempt by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to evict them from their current location.

The local authority has served the garages a two-week eviction notice; however, they have described the move as draconian.

“Some people came here to inform us that we should relocate because they were going to build stores. We have no place to go. We know this land belongs to Manhyia. This is a school land; you cannot build stores” Akwasi Ofori, a car dealer said.

For 60 years, these car dealers have been operating at the location.

The garages have employed hundreds of people and also provided auxiliary employment for scores.

Now, these dealers live with uncertainty.

Recent meeting with the local assembly to give them ample time to prepare was not successful

“We have met them to at least give us enough time to prepare ourselves, but they declined” James Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Car Dealers Association revealed.

The Assembly is yet to react to the development.
