The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup on March 31, 2026, in Accra.
According to a statement from the Parliament of Ghana, the ceremony will take place at 11:00 GMT at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House. The launch is expected to mark the beginning of another significant chapter in one of Ghana’s most symbolic sporting initiatives.
The Democracy Cup, which blends football with governance and national identity, has grown into a unique platform aimed at promoting democratic values through sport. Organisers say the initiative continues to champion civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and national cohesion by harnessing the unifying power of the game.
This year’s launch is anticipated to draw a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting community, corporate partners, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Beyond Ghana, the competition is also gaining international attention, with efforts underway to expand its global footprint through strategic partnerships that enhance the country’s sporting profile.
Further details, including participating clubs, fixtures, and prize packages, are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the tournament. Organisers have urged invited guests to confirm their attendance as preparations intensify for what is expected to be an impactful and exciting edition of the Democracy Cup.
