Michael Teye, a social commentator, has stated that he would be happy to see the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remain in opposition indefinitely.
Reacting to the State of the Nation Address delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on February 27, 2026, in Parliament, Mr. Teye said the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, matched the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, boot for boot during proceedings.
Explaining his position, Mr. Teye said the NPP performs best when it is in opposition.
“The New Patriotic Party is good at putting the sitting government on its toes. They push the government to work,” he stated.
According to him, if the focus is truly on Ghana’s development agenda, the Minority’s current approach in Parliament reflects what he described as “good politics.”
Mr. Teye also expressed disappointment in the Majority.
“I am disappointed in the Majority. With all their numbers, they could not adequately defend the President and his policies,” he said.
