The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, with the baby safely recovered.

The suspect, reportedly dressed as a nurse, was captured on the facility’s CCTV cameras carrying the baby and leaving the premises with what appeared to be a sack.

The footage has since circulated widely on social media.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, shortly after the mother delivered through a cesarean section. The baby was allegedly taken from the facility, triggering panic among staff and patients. Police have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and assisting with investigations. The safe retrieval of the newborn has brought relief to the family and members of the community.
