NDC’s next Flagbearer could struggle if Mahama remains party focus Activist Warns
Michael Teye, a social activist, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on its policies and party identity rather than promoting the current President John Mahama as the central figure.
Speaking on Ebaano Sen, an evening programme on Plan B FM, Teye drew parallels with the historical experience of the Convention People’s Party (CPP). “Kwame Nkrumah became more popular than the CPP, and when he passed on, the party struggled to maintain relevance.
The same risk is facing the NDC if it continues to center its messaging on Mahama rather than its policies,” he said.
Teye warned that by the time the 2028 elections approach, the next flagbearer could face serious challenges, including limited national recognition and support, if the party fails to build a strong institutional identity.
He emphasized that the NDC’s umbrella logo represents its enduring legacy, and that prioritizing party policies over personality is crucial to securing long-term political success.
