Security analyst Omanhene Nana Kofi Amankwah, who also serves as Chief of Akim Apagya in the Ashanti Region, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for promoting over 12,000 police officers in Ghana who were long overdue for advancement.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebaano Sen with host Ohene Kinnah, he explained that the delay in promotions was largely due to political influence. According to him, every political administration has its own vision and priorities, which often affect operations within the Ghana Police Service.
He further noted that about 11,000 officers were overdue for promotion in their respective ranks, while approximately 600 officers were promoted based on recommendations from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
He also acknowledged the infrastructure improvements undertaken by the former IGP and his administration, saying those efforts significantly enhanced the image of the Police Service.
“This IGP is focusing on human resource development, and this is clear evidence,” he said.
On the issue of corruption, Mr. Amankwah expressed concern that although the IGP is making efforts to combat the canker, the fight may not yield immediate results within the service.
“In Ghana, corruption is everywhere — in the media, chieftaincy institutions, public offices, and other public institutions,” he noted.
