The Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has established a Specialised High Court Division to handle specific categories of cases of national interest.
The decision was announced in a circular dated February 5, 2026, and issued under subsection 3 of section 14 of the Courts Act, 1993 (Act 459).
According to the circular, the new division will be made up of selected Justices of the Superior Court of Judicature, who will be appointed by the Chief Justice from time to time to sit in the court.
The Specialised High Court Division will hear both criminal and civil cases, including matters arising from reports of the Auditor-General, cases relating to the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and offences connected to environmental degradation.
The court will also handle cases arising under the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), matters involving the recovery of state property, narcotic drug-related offences under the Narcotic Drugs (Control, Enforcement and Sanctions) Law, 1990 (PNDCL 236), as well as cases brought under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).
In addition, the Chief Justice reserves the power to assign any other causes or matters to the Specialised High Court Division by written directive.
The move is expected to enhance efficiency, improve case management, and strengthen the administration of justice in complex and high-impact cases.
The circular was signed and sealed by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie in his capacity as Chief Justice.
