The Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) has announced a significant 20 percent reduction in okada fares, effective immediately, in a move aimed at easing the financial burden on commuters across the country.
The decision comes at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling with the cost of living and transportation expenses.
According to ORAG, the fare reduction follows the recent downward trend in fuel prices, motorbike costs, and spare parts, making it possible for riders to adjust their charges while still sustaining their operations.
The association described the move as a demonstration of responsibility and commitment to providing affordable and accessible transport services to the public.
ORAG believes the gesture should serve as a catalyst for broader economic relief and is calling on vendors, traders, and service providers to also reduce the prices of their goods and services.
The association stressed that collective action is needed to ensure that the impact of economic improvements is truly felt by ordinary Ghanaians.
In addition, ORAG appealed to the Christian Council, heads of Islamic bodies, traditional leaders, and civil society organisations to encourage their members and congregations to adopt similar measures that would help reduce prices and support national economic growth.
The association emphasised that leadership at all levels has a role to play in easing the hardship facing citizens.
The association further urged other drivers’ unions to follow its lead by reducing fares, noting that collaboration among transport operators could make a meaningful difference in the economy.
ORAG reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the positive changes currently taking place in Ghana translate into real benefits for the public.
