Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has marked one year since the tragic death of devoted supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, who lost his life during disturbances at Nsoatre.

In a solemn statement, the club described the incident as a senseless act of violence that cut short the life of a passionate fan whose love for the game and the club was evident in the stands.

The Porcupine Warriors noted that Nana Pooley was more than just a supporter, describing him as a symbol of passion, community, and joy that football brings. Despite the passage of time, the club says the pain of his absence is still deeply felt.

Asante Kotoko used the anniversary to renew calls for justice, stressing that football centres must remain safe spaces free from violence. The club reaffirmed its commitment to unity and peace, insisting that no supporter should ever lose their life while pursuing their love for the game.

“Football is a game of passion, community and joy, and it is a travesty that Nana Pooley was taken while doing what he loved,” the statement said.

While mourning the fallen supporter, the club said it chooses to celebrate the light and memories he left behind, noting that his spirit lives on in every chant and every goal scored by the team.
