The National Sports Authority (NSA) has withdrawn its official recognition of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) and its Executive Council, citing persistent governance and accountability failures.
The decision, which takes effect from January 7, 2026, follows the GSA’s failure or refusal to submit audited accounts, comply with provisions of its own constitution, and provide satisfactory responses to issues raised by the Authority. The NSA has also formally notified World Aquatics of the withdrawal.
As a result, the GSA and its Executive Council are no longer permitted to oversee national swimming competitions, select athletes for international events, or conduct aquatic sports activities either within or outside Ghana. Executive Council members are additionally barred from representing the country at any aquatics-related functions, locally or internationally.
The NSA clarified that the decision does not amount to a ban on swimming in Ghana. Activities by swimming clubs, including training sessions and competitions not directly organised by the GSA, are expected to continue.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and regulating aquatic sports while enforcing transparency, accountability, and good governance, stressing that the move is aimed at resetting the sport in the best interest of athletes and all stakeholders.
