Ghana Premier League Clubs Petition President Akufo-Addo To Free Kwesi Nyantakyi

Premier league clubs and Women’s football clubs as well as regional FA branches have signed “Free Kwesi Nyantakyi movement” petition to the President to temper justice with mercy for the former CAF Vice President.
The clubs want the state to drop the legal action against the former GFA President, who is serving a life-time ban by FIFA.

The clubs including the big two, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, want President Akufo Addo to implore his prerogative of mercy under Article 72 of the Constitution to withdraw the legal suit against the embattled former FA boss.

Kwesi Nyantakyi is serving a life-time ban after being found guilty of bribery and corruption.

FIFA’s ethics committee banned Nyantakyi “for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level,”.

The committee found Nyantakyi guilty of “conflicts of interest”, “bribery and corruption” and “commission” after being caught on camera accepting bribes.

In June 2018, an exposé by controversial investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas was broadcast showing hidden camera footage of Ghanaian officials allegedly taking bribes, including Nyantakyi.
Kwesi Nyantakyi in a meeting with undercover agents who posed as ‘investors’, disclosed how from small beginnings, he and his ‘investor’ friends could ‘take over’ Ghana with their money.

Nyantakyi was accused of requesting $11 million (9.3 million euros) to secure government contracts. The revelations rocked Ghana, where football is the national sport.

Mr Nyantakyi, who insists he is innocent, is fighting his case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
