Akufo-Addo’s office rejects claims of backdoor appeal over Ofori-Atta probe

AFFA Attributes NPP’s ‘Embarrassing’ Election 2024 Defeat to Akufo-Addo

The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has firmly denied reports suggesting he is seeking a private meeting with President John Dramani Mahama to obtain guarantees for the safe passage of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The denial follows growing public speculation amid ongoing investigations involving Mr Ofori-Atta, who is currently facing legal scrutiny from anti-graft institutions, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former president’s office described the claims as entirely false and without factual basis, urging the public to treat them with the contempt they deserve.

According to the statement, former President Akufo-Addo has neither initiated nor considered any form of engagement—directly or indirectly—with President Mahama regarding the legal challenges confronting Mr Ofori-Atta.

The office further stressed that Mr Akufo-Addo remains a staunch advocate of democratic governance and the rule of law, emphasizing that while he holds personal concern for Mr Ofori-Atta due to family connections and his role in the previous administration, such sentiments do not translate into interference in ongoing legal proceedings.

The statement concluded by expressing hope that the clarification would dispel any misconceptions and bring closure to the matter.
