The Volta Region remains one of Ghana’s most productive agricultural zones, contributing significantly to food security, job creation, and rural development.

During a live discussion on GBC Volta Star Radio’s Morning Show, the Volta/Oti Regional Manager of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Mr. Bright Delali Kugbeadzor, made a striking revelation — that the Volta Region’s 2025 rice production alone could feed the entire country.
Mr. Kugbeadzor explained that the region’s agricultural sector has experienced significant growth, driven by discipline, improved farming practices, and government-backed initiatives such as the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
“This year’s rice harvest from the Volta Region can feed the entire nation of Ghana,” he declared, emphasizing the tremendous progress made by local farmers who continue to expand their production capacity despite persistent challenges.
He further noted that sustaining these gains will require consistent investment in local production, storage, and marketing systems. He therefore urged Ghanaians to patronize homegrown rice to strengthen national food security and support local economies.
“It takes discipline to grow and sustain local import-substitution industries across the world,” Mr. Kugbeadzor added, calling for renewed national pride in Ghanaian agricultural products.
The GhanaNewsOnline Monitoring Desk, which followed the programme live, reported that several callers and listeners commended the achievements of Volta farmers and appealed for greater investment in rice milling and marketing infrastructure to maximize the region’s potential.
The Volta Region remains one of Ghana’s most productive agricultural zones, contributing significantly to food security, job creation, and rural development. Experts believe that with sustained support and modernization, the region could become the nation’s leading hub for rice and grain self-sufficiency.
