A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team in the Ashaiman Constituency, George Asabre, has expressed deep disappointment in the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its failure to prosecute the former Finance Minister since a petition was submitted in 2023.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Asabre questioned why the OSP has not taken decisive action after such a long period, describing the situation as “a waste of public resources.”
“You have received a petition since 2023, and up to date, you haven’t been able to get the former Finance Minister prosecuted. He should have resigned immediately he realized there were forces surrounding the case because remaining at post is useless,” he stated.
Mr. Asabre compared the situation to former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, who resigned when he felt his independence was being compromised. He warned that public confidence in the OSP is dwindling, with some even calling for the office’s closure.
“People are even calling for the collapse of the Office. If we are not careful, Ken Ofori-Atta will sell all his assets without the knowledge of Ghanaians. The OSP has all the resources to locate him, so he cannot tell us he doesn’t know where the former minister is,” he added.
Mr. Asabre further criticized the huge expenditure on the Office of the Special Prosecutor, saying it has yet to justify its existence with any major prosecution.
“We’ve spent so much on the OSP, yet up to now he hasn’t prosecuted anyone. It’s disappointing.
