“For a Healthy Mind and a Happy Baby, always Seek Support” – Midwife

“For a Healthy Mind and a Happy Baby, always Seek Support” – Midwife
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Midwife Ruth, a respected healthcare professional at Tema Urban Hospital, has urged expectant mothers to prioritise their mental well-being and seek support when needed, emphasising that a healthy mind is crucial for a happy baby.

In an exclusive interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, she discussed the various challenges that women face during pregnancy.

Discussing the physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy, Midwife Ruth attested that this period can be particularly trying for many women. “Hormonal fluctuations can significantly impact mood and physical comfort, and the added anxiety about the baby’s well-being can also be debilitating,” she said.

It is therefore essential for expectant mothers to prioritise self-care and seek support from loved ones and healthcare professionals when needed. Midwife Ruth highlighted several factors that contribute to anxiety in expectant mothers, including:

– Emotional and physiological changes
– Fear of labour
– Past experiences
– External factors like work and daily life stress
– Relationship issues

These factors, she revealed, can have a profound impact on a person’s mental health and well-being during pregnancy. Midwife Ruth stressed the importance of self-care and mental health, especially during significant life changes.

“Prioritising your well-being and seeking support from specialists can be really beneficial,” she advised.

“Take positive steps towards maintaining your mental health during pregnancy.”
