VIP bus gutted by fire on Accra-Kumasi Highway

A VIP bus travelling on the Accra–Kumasi Highway was completely destroyed by fire after passengers reportedly heard a loud explosion from the rear of the vehicle.

In a viral video shared on X on November 3, 2025, the bus could be seen burning intensely, as helpless bystanders watched from a safe distance.

Eyewitnesses said the bus, which was headed towards Kumasi, began emitting thick smoke from its rear, moments before bursting into flames.

The driver quickly pulled over to the side of the road to allow passengers to evacuate, reports said. Within minutes, the entire vehicle was engulfed in fire.

According to some of the passengers, they initially heard a strange noise from the engine area before noticing the smoke emitting from it.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the GNFS has launched an investigation to ascertain what triggered the explosion.

Meanwhile, authorities have advised transport operators to conduct regular maintenance checks on their vehicles to prevent similar incidents in the future.
