A member of the NPP communication team, James Tamakloe, has criticized the NDC government for what he describes as a poor approach in managing the issue of illegal mining (galamsey) across the country.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Tamakloe clarified that the recent call for a state of emergency is not about mining in general but specifically about galamsey, which continues to destroy lands and water bodies.
He noted that during the NPP’s term in office, although he personally did not support the idea of declaring a state of emergency, the government still implemented practical measures to curb the menace.
According to him, the current NDC administration has politicized the fight against galamsey and failed to present any concrete strategies to deal with the situation.
“If you ask them what measures they have put in place, they will tell you it’s too early for them. That shows clearly that they have no plan,” he said.
Mr. Tamakloe urged the government to take decisive action instead of turning the fight against galamsey into a political debate.
